What does the Subclass 485 visa allow you to do?
Subclass 485 visa holders are allowed to live, work and study in Australia for a temporary period (from 18 months to 4 years) after completion of their studies.
There are 2 streams for this vsa
The Graduate Stream:
Visas under this stream are granted for 18 months from the date of grant. International students who have graduated with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) are eligible to apply under this stream.
The Post-Study Work Stream:
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. It allows visa holders to live, work and study in Australia for up to four years from the date the visa is granted, depending on the visa applicant’s qualification. A positive skills assessment in the relevant occupation is essential for the visa application.
Eligibility
- Applicants need to be less than 50 years of age and holder of a student visa (or a Bridging Visa A or B following a student visa).
- They should also have received a qualification from a CRICOS registered course within the last 6 months.
- There are additional requirements that apply to each chosen stream.
When applying for a Subclass 485 visa
- Visa applicants must be in Australia at the time of lodgement and at the time of decision
- Evidence of the relevant police checks and positive skills assessment must be provided with the application
- Applicants must also supply evidence of the requisite English proficiency and adequate health insurance along with the application.
