
What is the Professional Year Program?
The Professional Year Program is a job readiness focussed professional development program that helps international student graduates from Australian universities to combine formal learning experience with valuable workplace experience. A practical pathway from university to employment, it links full time study with professional employment and ensures that the candidates are job ready. Currently available only in the fields of Accounting, Computer science & Engineering. The course runs for 44 weeks and includes a 12 week internship period as well.
It is available in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Only those Professional Year Programs that have been approved by the government are recognised by the The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).
Advantages of the Professional Year Program
- Participants obtain valuable and practical work experience in an Australian company through an internship
- It helps students further deepen their understanding of the general Australian workplace culture and practices.
- Students are able to develop and enhance their communication skills in a professional setting within the Australian workplace.
- Students are eligible to receive five extra points on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) ‘points test’ when applying for a Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa.
